Each time I read you I am reminded you are one of our few remaining national treasures- right up there with Tom Waits, and, until yesterday, George Jones. You captured the quintessence of what country means/is, and your phrase "that lovely blue zone between sadness and contentment" is the distillate- henceforth to be the stock/arch (in my hands) response to the tedious, half-baked questionings of your sister, my sister, everybody's sister. God bless George Jones, and God bless and protect Charles Lieurance.AdamKadmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15079382730664346656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4416546455029761288.post-72620857740786353552013-04-27T06:26:02.269-07:002013-04-27T06:26:02.269-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.AdamKadmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15079382730664346656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4416546455029761288.post-75507849497683864132013-04-26T14:48:19.900-07:002013-04-26T14:48:19.900-07:00Thanks, Eric! I'd bring bottles of Wild Irish Rose to the few whose livers survived to nursing home age, and they'd give me cigarette papers, assuming I used them for the same thing they did. Then we'd watch the Royals on mute, so I could hear about French girls in the First World War. Seeing them off on bugle strains would have been the greatest privilege. I'm jealous! And I loved reading this. I'll see that my pals do, too.

Eric Erlandson

PS: I wish I could get over this thing most usages of "different than" do to me. I realize it can be awkward to write one's way to "different from."Eric Erlandsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07315019391248586965noreply@blogger.com
